Start Date: July 29th End Date: August 22nd Tentative Schedule: Tuesday & Friday, 9:00am - 4:00pm Reports to: Josh Downes, Branch Operations Director Are you a motivated and energetic teen looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and supportive camp environment? As a Junior Camp Assistant at Camp Wells, you'll be paired with a Senior Counselor to support a wide range of daily activities and camper interactions. This is a great opportunity to build leadership skills, learn how to support youth development, and become a role model for younger campers- all while having fun in the sun! Volunteer Responsibilities: • Assist with group activities and help create a positive, inclusive environment for all campers. • Participate in planning and leading games, crafts, and special events alongside camp staff. • Help monitor camper behavior and provide guidance under the supervision of a Senior Counselor. • Support individual campers in achieving daily goals and celebrating their successes. • Help maintain a clean, safe, and healthy camp environment. • Assist with daily routines such as arrival, meals, swim time, and end-of-day wrap-ups. • Participate in morning and afternoon activity periods, helping to set up and support activities. • Join swimming lessons in the pool as needed and check in with lifeguards while assisting. • Encourage campers to embody YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. • Attend volunteer orientation and follow all YMCA and Camp Wells guidelines. Ideal Candidate: • Enjoys working with children and being part of a team. • Responsible, respectful, and eager to learn. • Comfortable spending the day outdoors and participating in physical activities. • Follows directions well and is open to feedback from supervisors. • Interested in developing leadership and communication skills. Training & Support: All Junior Camp Assistants will receive training prior to their first day and will be supported by Camp Wells leadership throughout the summer. Volunteers will learn about youth engagement, safety, and how to be a positive role model.
