2026 Togetherhood Volunteer: Cradles to Crayons

West Suburban YMCA

We're excited to reimagine TOGETHERHOOD, our signature volunteer initiative and an expression of the Y's commitment to social responsibility. Through TOGETHERHOOD, Y members come together to support their neighbors, strengthen the community, and make a positive local impact. The program offers fun, meaningful, and accessible ways for members to give back while building connections and creating change together. We are seeking 12 individuals to volunteer at Cradles to Crayons on Thursday, November 5 from 1pm-3pm. Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive – at home, at school and at play. A volunteer shift at Cradles to Crayons connects us to new and gently used donations - beautiful and loved clothing from the community - that we will quality check, sort, package, and prepare to go to kids in our communities through Cradles to Crayons' incredible network of Service Partners. The Giving Factory activities are broken up into specific stations, each one part of the larger “Quality = Dignity” journey that transforms donations into curated orders for specific children. Throughout your shift we will be led by a Volunteer Leader who will provide instructions and be present with us during the entire shift. IMPORTANT NOTES: Pre-registration is required through both the WSYMCA and Cradles to Crayons. A link to the Cradles to Crayons waiver will be sent in advance. Please plan to arrive at 12:45pm. Reusable water bottles are encouraged to stay hydrated! We ask that volunteers contribute to the Cradles to Crayons mission by bringing at least one children's item to donate. Most needed items include: infant and toddler sized clothing, t-shirts of all sizes, socks, winter coats, and sneakers.
