Supervisor: Association Aquatics Director Revision Date: January 2026 Start Date: April 2026/Flexible End Date: June 2026/Flexible Total Hours: 125 hours, flexible Typical Schedule: Week day evenings, Saturdays Location: Church Street POSITION SUMMARY: The Aquatics Volunteer will work within our Aquatics program at the West Suburban YMCA, alongside our Aquatics leadership staff. During the internship, the Aquatics Volunteer will gain exposure to the basic inner workings of the aquatics department. Your time spent learning how the Aquatics Department operates will build skill sets and experience to further set you up for your future! Tasks and projects include: • Shadowing swim lessons and assisting swim instructors as needed • Shadowing swim team practices and assisting the swim coach as needed • Gaining exposure to the administrative side of aquatics, including helping update Pulse with progress trackers for swim students SKILLS ACQUIRED: We hope to build valuable skillsets during your time at the West Suburban YMCA, which will help build your work experience and resume. These skills include, but are not limited to: Teamwork, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, adaptability, communication skills, time management (planning/prioritizing), software/systems education, project management and building your network. Knowledge of proper swim strokes. 3. Ability to apply in practice the knowledge and skills acquired in the academic setting. 4. Previously competitive swim experience preferred. 5. Basic working knowledge of computer and a willingness to learn new technology. 6. Commitment to consistent, agreed upon schedule. 7. Team player. 8. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those volunteer encounters while performing the essential tasks listed above. This volunteer opportunity operates in a professional office environment and/or on the field, pool and/or basketball courts. While performing the duties of this job, the volunteer is regularly required to use hands and fingers, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk or hear, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and smell. 1. Ability to continuously stand or walk for length of shift. 2. Ability to exhibit swim strokes. 3. Ability to bend, squat, run, climb stairs, and lift up to 25 lbs. These experiences would allow you to build practical skills both in and out of the pool while supporting our staff and participants in meaningful ways. Total hours: 125 Approximate timeframe: April 1- June 30th Dates are flexible and schedule will be set up with Association Aquatics Director, Kelly Barker
