LENGTH OF TIME: Start date: June 30th (flexible) End date: August 15, 2025 SCHEDULE: One day a week, as scheduled with the camp director. POSITION SUMMARY: The Camp Counselor Assistant will assist the Camp Counselor in supervising and effectively assist in leading a group of campers in daily camp activities and could involve lifeguarding, as needed. They will have a positive outlook on camp and willing to help children grow to their potentials. Camp Counselor Assistants will provide a safe and nurturing environment for campers and will be actively involved and have a positive attitude about all camp formalities and activities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assist counselors in supervising all aspects of the camper’s day transitions between activities, meals, bathroom breaks and swimming. Follow all camp rules, regulations and policies and enforce them among peers. Help out with all camp activities and participate as a member of the camp staff team. Participate in traditional camp programs to help encourage children to participate. Assist counselors in running activity periods as assigned. Actively participate in staff/volunteer training, meetings, etc. Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors, and the general public at all times. Assist each camper with meeting personal goals and those established by the camp for camper development. Follow established procedures for supervising camper health and enforcing all safety regulations. Instruct campers in emergency procedures including fire, severe weather, lost camper and lost swimmer. If qualified, serve as an assistant to the lifeguards or lookout at the pool as assigned. Routine cleaning responsibilities related to the camp’s health and safety protocols. Follow established health and safety standards of the YMCA, ACA and Dept. of Public Health. Demonstrate and teach the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to all campers and staff. Able to visually and audibly identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to assigned activities. Submit all required paperwork on time. QUALIFICATIONS: At least 16 years old Ability and experience in working with children Desire and ability to work in a camp setting Good role model, high integrity, and adaptable Ability to understand and follow directions Positive attitude and ability to be a part of a cohesive team Preferred Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid a plus (and current lifeguard certification if lifeguarding) Physical Demands: Hear noises and work in fast paced environment that requires patience, focus and diligence. Meet strength and lifting requirements of 25lbs. See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
